Funny Moments for Newcastle United
One thing about Newcastle United is that there is always some news about them, either good or bad.
The current manage of Newcastle United is one of Europe’s elite managers in the person of Rafa Benitez. Under his management, it seems that everything is fine with the team. So fans can simply look back at the past years and laugh at some of the disasters that have occurred in this team. Fans must surely remember some, if not all, of these funny events.
Alan Pardew is not new to the headlines; he has been in it many times in the past. These headlines vary from the brilliant, to the dreadful, and to the downright hilarious. Pardew is always involved in controversy but this is the worst of it all. David Mayler, a midfielder of Hull City, was head-butted by Pardew during their match. It was a rather expensive head butt which cost him a fine of ?100,000 by Newcastle United, and ?60,000 by the FA.
One of the football lols of Premier League’s history was when two players of their team squared up, which happened to Lee Bowyer and Kierton Dyer. There is supposedly no such thing as fighting with your own team mate because sports is team work and the normal behavior is players on one team fighting with players on the other team. Opposing players frequently fight with each other. It was funny to watch since, at the time, Dyer and Bowyer both belonged to the Toon Army. The two received red cards for violent behavior after involving themselves in a fight. That was bad enough, but they also eventually lost to Aston Villa at home with a score of 3 – 0.
Nobody defeats Newcastle United at home, especially Sunderland. But they lost 3 – 0 to the team at home. However, there was one fan who took the loss seriously and vented all his anger at a poor horse called Bud. The fan, one Barry Rogerson, 45 years old, taunted the horse and punched it on the head. This moronic actions led him to serve a year’s jail sentence. There will be worse years to follow for this humiliation.
Truth be told, Newcastle United has had some very poor managers in their time, but Joe Kinnear is pretty much the worst. He did so many funny things in his career although they were really terrible during those times. The most hilarious of all was when he tried to sign someone who already plays for his team. This happened when Kinnear attended a League Cup game between Swansea and Birmingham. Shane Ferguson, a Newcastle player, was then on loan with the Brummies. Ferguson dominated the midfield in a very great game. When Kinnear saw him play, he was impressed and said that he was going to sign Ferguson. At first, the press thought he was making a joke, only to find out that he didn’t know that Ferguson was one of his players at Newcastle. What a funny moment!
